Everyone rips Stephen A. Smith for calling Dwayne Haskins a ‘runner’ quarterback

This is going to be another not-so-good look for Stephen A. Smith after another thing he said on ESPN’s First Take.

On Friday, while weighing the pros and cons of Kyler Murray and Dwayne Haskins ahead of the upcoming 2019 NFL Draft, Smith said the Ohio State product “is more of a runner than a thrower, I could be wrong about that.”

According to the backlash on Twitter, yes, he is wrong about that.

Haskins completed 70 percent of his passes for the Buckeyes last season for 4,831 yards and 50 touchdowns. He ran 79 times for … 108 yards. That’s a clip of 1.4 yards per carry. Murray, ran for 1,001 yards at Oklahoma at 7.2 ypc.

So, yeah, Haskins isn’t more of a runner.

Here’s the clip:

Here’s the reaction:

That last one, of course, is a reference to the day Smith infamously said tight end Hunter Henry would be a factor in an upcoming Chiefs-Chargers game when the injured Henry hadn’t played a snap all year.

Oops.

UPDATE: Smith responded to criticism about this moment on Twitter and did not back down from his original claim.
