The College Football Playoff National Championship is sure to have a number of celebrities and professional athletes in attendance. That prominent group will include the Commander-in-Chief.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will take in the game as guests of Nick Ayers, the Chief of Staff to the Vice President Mike Pence. Ayers, a native of Austell, Ga., went to South Cobb High School and ultimately graduated from Kennesaw State University after initially dropping out to serve as the re-election campaign manager for Sen. Sonny Perdue.
Monday’s title game between SEC programs Alabama and Georgia was mentioned at the opening of Tuesday’s White House press briefing by White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
“The president would like to start by congratulating two great teams from two great states in the heart of Trump country,” Sanders said. “We look forward to a fantastic national championship between Alabama and Georgia next week.”
Sanders later referenced the opening statement as “simply making a congratulations to two great football teams in the greatest conference in the country. Which I’m sure that most of you will all agree, even those that don’t live in one of those lucky states.”
